Mezzo-soprano Sophie Paterson and pianist Siyuan Xu present a programme celebrating the enduring musical life of Shakespeare’s words. Spanning songs by composers from different eras and styles, the recital explores love, longing, wit, nature and the many faces of human experience found in Shakespeare’s poetry and plays. Alongside familiar settings, the programme features a new composition by Sarah Marze, bringing Shakespeare’s text into a contemporary musical voice. Together, the works reveal how these words continue to inspire composers and performers more than four centuries after they were written.
